HPiVS gets behind the RIB 4 Macmillan charity

CE certificate photoshoot

HPiVS CEO, Alasdair Reay, hands the CE certificate to Alex Hutchings from RIB 4 Macmillan

At the Southampton Boatshow, HPiVS stumbled across the charity “RIB 4 Macmillan” which is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Members from the RIBnet forum joined forces with professionals from the marine trade to rebuild & customise an incredible 2005 Avon Searider. The RIB will be auctioned on eBay during the 2014 Southampton Boat Show and 100% of the sale price will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The project was largely driven by Custom RIB and Henshaw Inflatables and includes an engine donated by Rolls-Royce and a console with original dials from RYA.  With all the different parties involved, it seems that nobody checked the CE marking! It turns out that as the RIB was initially supplied to the military, it was never CE marked.  HPiVS CEO, Alasdair Reay, happened to notice this, while passing. Cue a lot of activity as HPiVS offered to provide, pro-bono, a Post Construction Assessment CE certificate for the EU Recreational Craft Directive, in double-quick time!  The boat was inspected at the show on Wednesday 17th September and the full assessment and documentation was written-up the following day. Here the photo shows the handover of the certificate on Friday 19th September.  The boat is now legal for the handover on Sunday 21 September!
